On a "Destiny Quest" to Learn about Dr. King

In composition and history classes we used the laptops and our Lower School Library catalog "Destiny Quest" to visit online databases Pebble Go and Encyclopedia Britannica for Kids to research the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.  We used the information we found to compose a brief biography of his life.  We also watched videos and a rap (!) about his legacy.

 

 

Evidence of the Polar Vortex!

In technology and geography this week, we used Excel to create our first spreadsheet and graph.  We entered data on the shockingly low temperatures caused by the polar vortex, as well as the average high and low for this time of year.  When we transformed this data into a line graph, it became quite apparent that our temperatures have fallen well below average!  Students took comfort in realizing that this extreme cold snap would be short-lived, since the end of the week looks more promising.

 

Afterwards we got a kick out of observing temperatures across the nation.  Oh, to be in the southwest or Florida!

 

Time to Celebrate!

On the last day of school before Winter Break, we had a wonderful time celebrating the upcoming holidays, our success so far in Eighth Age, and the New Year to come!

Thank you very much to the parents who made our party possible with all of the planning, effort, treats, and time that you put into it. We really enjoyed ourselves and hope that those of you who were able to make it did, too!

Mr. Carroll On Our Minds...

The boys have done very well transitioning between teachers mid-year, but naturally they miss Mr. Carroll.  We wrote Mr. Carroll letters to share with him the things that we missed the most about him.  Students enjoyed designing their card covers with things that are special to Mr. Carroll - namely, the Patriots!

 

Getting Ready for the Holidays!

The boys of 8-2 are looking forward to our holiday card exchange!  Here we are decorating the bags that will be used to collect the many wonderful cards the students will bring each other.

 

 
In our spare time, we had fun solving puzzles and activities in our homeroom holiday packet.

 

 

 

Farewell, Mr. Carroll

 We were all very sad to part ways with Mr. Carroll last Friday, after a fantastic three months together during my maternity leave.  I'm sure this is not the last we will see of him.  As Mr. Carroll says, he does not like "goodbyes", only "see you laters".
