Mr. Carroll On Our Minds...

The boys have done very well transitioning between teachers mid-year, but naturally they miss Mr. Carroll.  We wrote Mr. Carroll letters to share with him the things that we missed the most about him.  Students enjoyed designing their card covers with things that are special to Mr. Carroll - namely, the Patriots!

 

Getting Ready for the Holidays!

The boys of 8-2 are looking forward to our holiday card exchange!  Here we are decorating the bags that will be used to collect the many wonderful cards the students will bring each other.

 

 
In our spare time, we had fun solving puzzles and activities in our homeroom holiday packet.

 

 

 

Farewell, Mr. Carroll

 We were all very sad to part ways with Mr. Carroll last Friday, after a fantastic three months together during my maternity leave.  I'm sure this is not the last we will see of him.  As Mr. Carroll says, he does not like "goodbyes", only "see you laters".

Eighth Age Spirit Day!

The cafeteria was a sea of green, white, and yellow this past Friday, December 6.  All Eighth Agers were invited to show their school and class spirit by dressing in their class colors (green and white for the boys, green and yellow/gold for the girls).  We enjoyed this dress-down day and celebrated at snack time with spirit-color cupcakes!

Banner Colors:
White stands for strength and pride.
Green symbolizes growth over the years at Calvert.
Gold represents a ray of sun standing for happiness, warmth, and the love we share daily.

 

 

Later that day we had fun playing cooperatively during indoor recess.

Our Spirit Week culminated in a rousing game of Calvert School Jeopardy along with 8-1.  We played Hoppers vs. Crickets - Hoppers won!

A Grand Thank You and Welcome Back

On Monday, December 2, our class representative, Francie Spahn, arrived in 8-2 for a surprise celebration during what was scheduled to be spelling class!  Mrs. Spahn brought us juice packs and enormous hand-decorated cookies from Graul's, to welcome me back from my maternity leave and to thank Mr. Carroll for all that he has done for the past three months.  Here we are enjoying our treat together.

 

 

 

Eighth Age Visits Union Mills

What a great day!  I had the pleasure of joining the boys today on their field trip to Union Mills (with baby in tow).  On this chilly autumn day we all enjoyed being out in the crisp, fresh air, but also appreciated escaping the wind as we stepped inside the carpenter’s/blacksmith’s shop, the grist mill, and the Homestead on our guided tour with Mr. Ivan and Ms. Jane.  The boys’ behavior was excellent, and they seemed to learn a lot!  I was impressed with their respectful participation along the tour and their background knowledge when answering questions.
